Linda McMeekin, Board Member
Retired
I chose to make Morningstar Living’s Heritage Village my “Forever Home” in 2015, after visiting the Moravian Hall Square facility and learning about the vision that would convert an empty cornfield into the vibrant community it is today. While awaiting construction, I met future neighbors through events planned to help us become acquainted. On April 20, 2018, I moved in and soon realized that what makes our community exceptional is the deep-seated spirit of care, faith, and dedication that defines everyday life here.
Seeing firsthand how leaders and staff work to maintain our vibrant and supportive environment inspired me to give back by volunteering and serving on the Residents Council. Stepping into board service was a natural extension. I served on the Morningstar Living Foundation and Morningstar Living Boards when asked. I chose to serve on the Unitas Board when asked recently because I want to ensure that this active, caring family of affiliated organizations remains strong, sustainable, and true to its mission in the years to come. I want to see it grow, expanding its reach, and improve the quality of life for seniors.
I approach board governance by blending my personal perspective as a resident with the analytical discipline of my professional background. Having spent 40 years in research and retiring from Johnson & Johnson as a Research Fellow and Registered U.S. Patent Agent, I bring a detail-oriented mindset to our fiduciary and oversight responsibilities. Furthermore, my active memberships in national and state advocacy groups like NaCCRA and PARCR allow me to bring an industry-wide lens to our discussions, ensuring our board stays highly informed of regional trends, legislative changes, and financial benchmarks affecting senior living today.
Looking ahead, my vision for Unitas focuses on strengthening our long-term stability while developing innovative ways to expand our mission to serve more seniors. I am deeply interested in how we can thoughtfully integrate new technologies to support senior health and independence, particularly through advances in memory and dementia care. By balancing strategic foresight and sound fiscal stewardship with our core mission-driven values, we can secure the future of our organization, ensuring Unitas Communities continues to grow and to stand out as a trusted leader in senior advocacy and lifelong wellness.
